Teenager Assaulted and Robbed Aboard Queens Subway Train; NYPD Launches Manhunt for Trio of Suspects
QUEENS, N.Y. — Authorities are investigating a violent transit robbery that left an 18-year-old man shaken after he was targeted by a group of individuals aboard a northbound F train on Sunday night. The New York City Police Department has released details of the incident as they appeal to the public for help in identifying the perpetrators.
The assault occurred on March 17, at approximately 8:30 p.m., as the train was approaching the Court Square-23rd Street station in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens. What began as a routine commute turned into a harrowing ordeal when the victim was approached by three unidentified individuals.
A Violent Confrontation
According to police reports, the three suspects cornered the teenager shortly before the train pulled into the station. The encounter quickly escalated from a confrontation to physical violence. Investigators state that the group struck the 18-year-old victim before forcibly removing his personal property.
While the specific injuries sustained by the victim were not immediately categorized as life-threatening, the brazen nature of the attack—occurring on a holiday evening—has added to growing concerns regarding passenger safety within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) system. Following the robbery, the suspects fled the train on foot as it reached the platform, disappearing into the station and onto the street level.
The Ongoing Investigation
The NYPD’s Transit Bureau and detectives from the local precinct are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the Court Square station and surrounding areas. As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Police have not yet released detailed physical descriptions or photos of the suspects, but they are expected to utilize “high-definition” station cameras to track the group’s movements prior to and after the assault.
