No Popcorn Required: Chris Pratt Reveals the Common Childhood Activity His Younger Kids Have Never Done

He may be one of the biggest action stars on the planet, but in Chris Pratt’s household, the “magic of the movies” looks a little different than it does for the rest of the world. In a recent candid interview, the Guardians of the Galaxy star revealed that while his eldest son, Jack, was a frequent fixture on movie sets and in cinema seats, his 5-year-old daughter Lyla and her younger siblings have yet to experience one of the most common pastimes in modern childhood: visiting a professional movie theater.
Speaking on the red carpet for his latest project, Pratt shared insights into his “back-to-basics” parenting style with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger. The actor noted that despite his face being plastered on billboards worldwide, his younger children are being raised with a strictly limited digital diet.
A Different Approach to the Big Screen
Pratt explained that his 5-year-old daughter, Lyla Maria, has never sat through a feature film in a traditional theater setting. While this might seem surprising for the child of a Hollywood A-lister, Pratt insists the decision is intentional.
“With Jack, he was born right as things were exploding with Guardians and Jurassic World. He was kind of thrust into that world of premieres and big screens,” Pratt said, referring to his 13-year-old son whom he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris. “But for the littlest three, Katherine and I have been much more intentional about keeping them grounded in the real world before we introduce them to the cinematic one.”
Pratt and Schwarzenegger, who married in 2019, share Lyla (5), Eloise (3), and their youngest son, born in late 2024. The actor joked that his younger children currently think his “job” mostly involves “wearing silly outfits and talking to people on his phone.”
Nature Over Screen Time
The “common activity” of going to the movies isn’t the only thing missing from the Pratt-Schwarzenegger household. The couple has been vocal in the past about prioritizing outdoor play and farm life over tablets and television. The family spends a significant portion of their time on their ranch, where the children are encouraged to interact with animals and help in the garden.
“There is so much stimulation in the world today,” Pratt remarked during the interview. “I want them to have an attention span that can handle a book or a walk in the woods before they’re hit with 40-foot-tall explosions. We’re not anti-movie—obviously, that pays the bills—we’re just pro-childhood.”
When Will the Streak End?
Despite the current ban on the multiplex, Pratt admits the time is coming when Lyla will finally see her dad in action. With a new animated project on the horizon, the actor hinted that a private screening might be the perfect “first-time” compromise.
“She’s starting to ask questions because her friends at school talk about certain characters,” Pratt admitted. “I think 2026 might finally be the year we get some popcorn and see a movie. But we’ll probably start with something a little less intense than a dinosaur chasing me through a jungle.”
