Jinkies! Netflix Unmasks the Full Mystery Inc. Cast for Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series

The Mystery Machine is officially gassed up and ready to roll. Netflix has finally revealed the quartet of young actors set to step into the iconic roles of Mystery Inc. for its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series. Following the earlier attachment of Mckenna Grace, the streaming giant has rounded out the gang with a mix of rising stars and seasoned young veterans.

Meet the New Mystery Inc.

Joining the previously announced Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), who will portray the fashion-forward and resourceful Daphne Blake, are Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Maxwell Jenkins.

Tanner Hagen, known for his work in The Way Home, has landed the role of Norville “Shaggy” Rogers. Hagen faces the tall task of bringing the lovable, perpetually hungry coward to life in a live-action format. Abby Ryder Fortson, who charmed audiences in Ant-Man and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, will step into the oversized glasses of the group’s resident genius, Velma Dinkley. Completing the human ensemble is Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space, Dear Edward), who will play the group’s brave—if occasionally self-assured—leader, Fred Jones.

A Modern Spin on a Classic Formula

While details regarding the plot remain largely under wraps, the project is being developed as a one-hour dramatic series, suggesting a tone more in line with contemporary teen mysteries like Riverdale or Nancy Drew rather than the campy humor of the early 2000s live-action films. This iteration aims to explore the origins and interpersonal dynamics of the meddling kids while they tackle supernatural mysteries that may have grounded explanations.

The series is being spearheaded by the powerhouse creative duo of Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (High Fidelity, Cowboy Bebop), who will serve as writers and executive producers. The project is a collaboration between Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, bringing Greg Berlanti’s extensive experience with ensemble dramas to the Scooby-Doo universe.

A Powerhouse Production Team

In addition to starring as Daphne, Mckenna Grace will serve as an executive producer on the series, continuing her streak of taking on creative leadership roles behind the camera. The executive production team also includes Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions, alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner for Midnight Radio.

The casting marks a significant milestone for the project, which has been in development at Netflix since earlier this year. By choosing a cast of established young actors with significant credits in both film and prestige television, Netflix is signaling that it views Scooby-Doo as a tentpole franchise for its global audience.

What About Scooby?

The one question that remains on every fan’s lips is the titular character himself. While the human cast is set, Netflix has yet to reveal how Scooby-Doo will be portrayed. It is widely expected that the Great Dane will be a CGI creation integrated into the live-action environment, though the voice actor for the iconic canine has not yet been named.

With the gang finally assembled, production is expected to begin shortly. For fans who grew up with the 1969 Hanna-Barbera original or the various reboots over the decades, this new chapter promises a fresh, sophisticated look at one of the most enduring groups in pop culture history.
