19-Year-Old Westminster Man Arrested Following ‘Unlawful Contact’ with 8-Year-Old Child

WESTMINSTER, Calif. — A 19-year-old Orange County man is facing a string of felony charges after authorities say he engaged in “inappropriate and unlawful contact” with an 8-year-old child who was playing outside their home.

The Westminster Police Department announced the arrest of Anthony Gonzalez, a resident of Westminster, following an investigation into an incident that occurred on the afternoon of March 21. According to law enforcement officials, the young victim was playing in a residential area when Gonzalez allegedly approached and initiated the encounter.

While specific details regarding the nature of the contact have not been fully disclosed to protect the privacy of the minor, investigators confirmed that the evidence gathered was sufficient to file multiple felony counts against the teenager. The Westminster Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit took over the case immediately following the initial report.

“The safety and protection of our children are of the utmost importance,” a department spokesperson stated in a news release. “Our investigators worked diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect to ensure the continued safety of our community.”

Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held as the legal process moves forward. Detectives are now looking into the suspect’s background to determine if there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

The Westminster Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding this case, or anyone who may have had similar interactions with Gonzalez, to contact their lead investigators. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Orange County Crime Stoppers.

As the investigation continues, local authorities are reminding parents to remain vigilant and to speak with their children about “stranger danger” and the importance of reporting any uncomfortable interactions with adults immediately.
